From Bandung with shelves

I went to Bandung, the capital city of West Java, Indonesia on a day trip to take my fiancee last Sunday 11 April 10. She was about to attend a one-week General Emergency Life Saving training there, Allah bless her..

"But what and where is this Bandung??", you ask.. imma show you where Bandung is at and some general knowledge about it. Learning IS fun :)

Bandung is the capital city of West Java. Totally different from Jakarta, which is the capital city of Indonesia. Even though it's a lot smaller than Jakarta, they beg to differ in terms of creativity and cuisine. In these areas, they are the undisputed King of Creativity. Jakarta people come to Bandung on weekends, long weekends and public holidays simply to trash the place and make massive traffic jams. I bet they hate our guts too, but hey.. without us, there's simply no business in Bandung hahahahaha. They're football team was the best in total football during the late 80s to the early 90s but saw no major improvement in terms of championship achievement until now :)

If you look at the map above, it's only a 2,5-3 hours flight from Darwin or Perth, Australia. They claim they are Indonesia's answer to Melbourne, with many top-ranking universities, internet cafes, and cool weather.. not even close, according to this blogger :p

Coming back to creativity in the kitchen, yes, i admit they do make excellent food. i'm not kidding when i say excellent, but you just have to know where to look for from the beginning.

One of the most-awesomest Fried Oxtail Soup is located at the Cipaganti area of Bandung. The restaurant is called Dahapati. Just looking at the meal as they landed on our table was enough to make us grin from ear-to-ear. i mean, just look at my fiancee, man.. i'm sure i didn't take her to the wrong eating joint this time.

The taste? Rest assured that it is the bomb! Highly recommended to anyone who loves to go out and eat warm, meaty, and soupy-soupy food.

Anyways, as the day was nearing to an end, we headed to Parijs Van Java.. this is supposingly the best, trendiest mall in Bandung. But it was raining and the semi-outdoor concept didn't help. It was dry on the sides but wet in the middle. Kind of like the local girls, i presume :p

I dropped off my fiancee to meet her friends there and went on my way to Jakarta. on my way to the toll road, i realized that there were a few furniture shops along the way. I've been looking for decent shelves to display my collection for quite some time, so i parked my car, went into one of the shops and got myself these..

I started to assemble them on monday night after work, and got the finish both by last night. They were affordable, the tall one with 4 shelves was Rp.110,000 (around US$11) and the short one with 3 shelves was Rp.90,000 (around US$9). The quality and finish is not astonishing, but surprisingly neat. Hopefully they'll last longer than expected hahahaha. So now the big question is, what do i want to put on them?

Let's start with the smaller one first.. i looked around and saw my precious collection of 90s comic books. They may not look like much now, but back then they have the best storylines ever created. The death of Superman, i mean, who could've come up with that today?? They've made it to the movies as films you all know and love such as Iron Man, Spiderman, etc. These comic books also sharpen my skills in oral and written English, so they definitely have sentimental values and therefore worthy of having their own dedicated shelve :)

..and so this is how it looks after i put in my collection. All them are in Mint to Near Mint condition. Since the 90s.

I know some of you are curious as to what's in my collection. Please see below. I don't have time to scan each pages one by one, so i grabbed the covers off the WWW.. you'll have to believe me when i tell you that i have 'em hahahaha.

Nice, right? Thanks:) Next step is to think about how to display my collection of 90s NBA Basketball Cards collection. But that's for later coz i'm still thinking that it's missing something. It doesn't have that icing on the cake yet.. ah! here we go. Now it's perfect :)

As for the taller book shelf, these are what i put in it..

So there you go, two new shelves.. both now have new purposes in their wooden lives to display my collections. If anyone have a better way of displaying comic books or how to improve your display on a budget, i sure would like to hear from you.

Until then, peace out and keep collecting :)
