Jakarta Toys, Comics and Games Year End Fest 2009

Jakarta Toys, Comics and Games Year End Fest 2009
Electronic City, SCBD
5-8 November 2009

First of all I would like to say thank you to the organizers for their consistency in organizing this yearly event. It was great every time, and this particular event was no exception. It was a great way for toy collectors to meet and greet, and also to shop.

I noticed a few things during my frequent visits *without my girlfriend knowing, of course :)* and they were:
  1. Gundams, Transformers, Hellboy, Mighty Muggs.. all silent throughout the event. Have people finally left this iconic culture for other, more interesting things to collect?
  2. No more cosplay. Why? I kinda like this, it shows people's enthusiasm to portray their "characters". Maybe it was saved for bigger upcoming events?
  3. A lot of participants from outside Jakarta. They bring many interesting rare items such as SDCC 08 "convention exclusives" at prices far below standard.
  4. Are Bobble-heads the new Mighty Muggs?
  5. Vinyl toys finally have become the norm in toy fairs, yippeeee! I was afraid that there wouldn't be any since Ihatetoys is no longer a participant. But the arrival of The Other Culture proved me wrong. I even managed to get a complete set of Play Imaginative Trexi "Master Q 45th Anniversary" set from a bargain bin :) From other stalls I managed to get a Play Imaginative Trexi "Guiness Halloween" limited edition and Toy2R The Simpsons Qee 3-figure SDCC 08 convention exclusive. All very nice.
  6. I won't make comments on SIC, Tokusatsu, Tomica, and all that.. It's not my scene :)
Below were some things i got from the toy fair.. I take images from the www first, i haven't got the time to photo the actual thing, sorry guys.

SDCC 2008 Simpsons 3-Inch Qee 3-Pack

Originally offered at Comic Con International: San Diego 2008 in limited sets. This cool set includes three Qee figures: Homer and Bart in their summer swimwear (including surfboards), plus a special 2.5" clear Simpsons logo Qee Bear - available only through this set! Each figure includes a Qee keychain attachment. This set usually goes for USD19.99 (or around IDR200,000) but I got it cheap for USD14.99 (0r around IDR150,000).

Play Imaginative Old Master Q Trexi Set

To celebrate the 45th Anniversary of Old Master Q, Play Imaginative through Trexi released a 3-set, individually boxed Trexis of their popular characters (Master Q, Big Potato, and Qin). This is a cool set, with each Trexi sold at SGD10 at Play Imaginative dot com, and around IDR300-350,000 per set in Indonesia (depending where you got it from). I got my set just for IDR150,000 at a bargain bin, so lucky :)

Play Imaginative Guinness Halloween Trexi (ltd. ed.)

This is just cool. I never knew this even existed.. my friend would love this (he happens to be Guinness Indonesia's account manager). I don't know how much this one costs, anywhere. But I got it for a very good price, at USD5. Half price from USD10 during panic-sale hour (one hour before the toy fair closes hahahaha). Great bargains DO come to those who wait :)

Well that's all I got from this Toy Fair. I'm looking forward to the next one, and I hope to find more great stuff like these. Go vinyl!!!

Singapore Toys, Games and Comics Convention 2009

I went to Singapore the other day for work purposes and somehow ended up in the Singapore Toys, Games and Comics Convention 2009. Very cool exhibition.. lotsa urban toys artists, lotsa Star Wars, lotsa G1 Transformers.

Here are some pics I took, enjoy.

The Wall Of Fame, probably the coolest Wall Of Fame I've ever seen..

Molly by artists such as Tokidoki and Tofu

The 501st Legion

400% Bearbrick

G1 re-issue Soundwave

David Horvath signed my Program Book :)

Brian Bolland, the guy who did the Tank Girl comic book series (DC) a long time ago..
He also signed my Program Book :)

Simone Legno, creator of Tokidoki

Ron English customizing my plain Tofu keychain :)

Kidrobot's Joe Ledbetter signing/drawing on my Program Book :)

DC's Tan Eng Huat

New from Mindstyle

Mindstyle "Stitch"

..and this is all I managed to get due to cabin baggage limitations. If there were no limits to how many things you can carry inside the cabin, i would have gotten more. Believe me.

Backy and Bocky by Furi Furi (Japan), Play Imaginative exclusive ltd. ed. (numbered, but i forgot what number out of how many my set is hehehehe)

Project: Neptoon, Play Imaginative exclusive.

Project: Acrilyc display cabinet

Here's something I came up with, with the help of some crafty dudes. Feel free to copy the measurements and the designs :)

Finished product would look something like this..

Pretty good, right..

Greetings, toy collectors allova da world :)

I set up this blog just to share pics of my collection. I'm sure some people in different parts of the world have a crazier and more complete collection than mine, but this is what i have right now and I'm proud to show them to you.

I'm not a fan of Manga characters as I grew up watching US cartoons, so don't expect any Gundams or Kamen Raiders in this blog coz I really have no idea what they're all about hehehehehe.

So sit back, chill, give nice comments if you wanna. Oh yeah, do share your what you have with me as I might use them for reference purposes. Thanks :)
