Sam Fout's Project: Neptoon

I got my set from the 2009 Singapore Games Toys and Comics Convention from the Play Imaginative booth. They were on sale at SG$50 for a complete set consisting of 6 vinyl figures, with sizes ranging from 4"-6" tall. In Jakarta, Indonesia, they're still priced at around SG$50 EACH.. so you can imagine my ear-to-ear grin :)

The first time i saw these babies i was blown away.. but the price tags that came with it simply held me back.. but yeah, I had to get the whole set nonetheless. So when i saw them at this price at the Con, i just gotta have 'em. They're really cool to display, highly detailed and the finishing is great. You just gotta open them and appreciate them to understand. All i can say is that Sam Fout is a great toy artist and he's heading for great things.

Below is my set..

From left to right:
Major Walter E. Ripper: Sovereign leader and founder of Tomorrow’s Republic, Cadet Clyde Olson: First Mate on TeamAmerica’s Naiad Ark, Special Agent Kakudji: Covert Ops for TeamAfrica, Captain Jack Maddox: Champion pilot for TeamAmerica, Number Three (Formerly Corporal H.G. Magesh): Devoted follower of Major Ripper and Tomorrow’s Republic Soldier, Number One (Formerly Special Agent D. Capstack): Major Ripper’s mouthpiece and chief advisor.

..and below is a review that i borrowed heavily from http://plasticandplush.com/2006/09/review_sam_fout.html

Sam Fout’s Project: Neptoon line is from Playstix – the vinyl toy brand from Play Imaginative. Fout has created comics revolving around the story’s main characters published over a few issues in Play Magazine. They are also developing scripts to tell the story through motion pictures and television.

Background

In the year 2526, Mankind has eradicated all human life from the galaxy. Earth’s animals have formed national teams and launched their space arks into the cosmos. Unable to reach peaceful agreement, the teams construct crude arenas on surrounding moons. There they organize battles and competitions for the total control of the last inhabitable planet.. Neptune.

Packaging

The figures come in two different sizes, meaning that there are two separate boxes, depending on the size of the figure. Each window-front box is individualized depending on the figure that is packaged inside. There is a photo of the character and information about that character.

The Figures

There are six total figures in the Project: Neptoon line. They are split evenly into two different sizes – 4” and 6”.

The 6” tall figures are Major Walter E. Ripper, Special Agent Kakudji, and Number Three.

The 4” tall figures are Captain Jack Maddox, Number One, and Cadet Clyde Olson.

In my own conclusion, I think these are great. 9 out of 10. I would give a perfect 10 out of 10 if only Special Agent Kakudji have at least one point of articulation.

What do y'all think?

My Mighty Muggs collection

Hmm.. okay, mine's still a small collection. But i think it's worth posting since i know a lot of you out there collects these.

I mostly got mine from sale events and discounted toy fair prices. I don't mind getting what i want a season later than everybody else because they would still look the same a season later. If they're no longer available, well, that's just my lost :)

Below are what i have, and i'll try reviewing them a bit as nice as possible :)

From L to R: Star Wars Mighty Muggs Vinyl Figures Wave 5 Asajj Ventress, Marvel Legends Mighty Muggs Series 1 Figure Wolverine, Indiana Jones Mighty Muggs Vinyl Figures Wave 1 Indiana Jones, Marvel Legends Mighty Muggs Series 1 Figure Venom, Star Wars Mighty Muggs Anakin Skywalker.

Star Wars Mighty Muggs Vinyl Figures Wave 5 Asajj Ventress

The lady who defines lightsabers as lethal never looked so good! Whether for play or display, this hip version of the Sith assassin from the animated Clone Wars saga is sure to bring a smile to the faces of collectors and fans alike. With a large character head and chunky body, this fun figure is armed with dual lightsabers and is ready to toy with her enemies. Asajj Ventress figure comes with 2 lightsaber accessories.

I got mine from the 6th Jakarta Toys and Comics Fair 2010 from the Hasbro booth at Rp100,000 (50% off normal store prices).

Marvel Legends Mighty Muggs Series 1 Figure Wolverine

When it comes to fighting crime, this guy's an animal! With a large character head and chunky body, this fierce fighter proudly flaunts his claw-like blades and of course, a smattering of wolfish arm hair and a hint of five oclock shadow. In summary, this is really a Fun, detailed figure is based on the popular claw-wielding wonder.

I got mine from Metro Department Store in Pondok Indah Mall, Jakarta at a discounted price. They were selling it at close to Rp300,000 at that time and i was happy to get it at Rp199,000.

Indiana Jones Mighty Muggs Vinyl Figures Wave 1 Indiana Jones

Indy comes with his trademarked hat and whip. The whip is sculpted in a dynamic pose, and you might want to be careful not to push the hat too hard down to his scalp as you might damage the head's paint.

I got mine from The Other Culture (fX Shopping Center, Jakarta) and this was the last one on display during one of their sale event. I was happy to get mine at a discounted price because the Indiana Jones Muggs line was quite rare. Rare equals high demand and higher price, y'all know how it is :)

Marvel Legends Mighty Muggs Series 1 Figure Venom

The face of evil never looked so good! With a large character head and chunky body, this jagged-tooth troublemaker unleashes his whip-like tongue and of course, his unmistakable flair for evil.

This is the first Muggs figure i bought. I got it online with no box and in a generally good condition. After buying this, i got hooked and decided to collect them.

Star Wars Mighty Muggs Anakin Skywalker

The blue-eyed Jedi never looked so good! This character from the animated Clone Wars saga comes with a large character head and chunky body, is armed with his lightsaber accessory.

Same like the Ventress Muggs, I got mine from the 6th Jakarta Toys and Comics Fair 2010 from the Hasbro booth at Rp100,000 (50% off normal store prices).

In summary,
The Muggs are not plush, but they aren't crazy-hard either. They don't come with many articulations, and the latest wave of characters now comes with more accessories included in the box regardless from what series each one comes from. They can withstand the abuse of your kids, nephews, infants etc and can come back for more time and again in case they managed to get their paws on your precious collection.

Best of all, they are totally fun and MADE FROM 100-PERCENT RECYCLED AWESOME!

I highly recommend them :)

Jakarta 6th Toys & Comics Fair

Sacca Productions held the Jakarta 6th Toys & Comics Fair from the 14-15 March 2010 at the Indoor Tennis Stadium, Senayan, Jakarta.

This is the biggest and the best by far in my opinion. It was the biggest as evidenced by the number of participants and crowd (over 10 thousand came in the span of two days), and for that i would personally like to congratulate the organizers for a job well done.

So what made this year's Toy Fair as the best? It's the return of VINTAGE, that's what! Near Mint-conditioned Vintage Star Wars (my fave), vintage Masters of The Universe, vintage GI JOE, vintage Japan Super Robots (Voltus, etc), vintage Transformers, and other vintage US iconic toys all made appearances. Every "lapak" or shop had at least some form of vintage Star Wars item on display. The prices? Well if you looked closer, don't mind hunting and digging (like i did), you'd find they were priced reasonably and affordably :)

My suggestion for the organizers: do a special vintage toy fair.

Enough said, let's get down to the pics. If you know all these toys, than all i can say is that you had a happy childhood :)

Somebody's Slave1 collection, i really like this person's consistency

Vintage US iconic toys of the 80s

New and vintage Star Wars toys available at Toyzone

PS3, Xbox and Wii should pay respect to these old timers..

Somebody's vintage GI Joe collection, i assume this is the Cobra HQ or something like that

New and vintage Transformers

Vintage Masters of The Universe

Micro Machines Milennium Falcon. Can be converted to Rebel Base complete set (no box) *i bought this, totally cool!*

..however i didn't buy this, it was such a bargain (plus free Luke Skywalker in pilot suit) and i know i'm gonna keep dreaming about it until i got it :(

Of course, no Toy Fair would be complete without the participation of urban toys.

Check out this Munny from The Other Culture. I know everyone would like to have this.

..or screw the Munny, i'd rather have all these!

Another thing that made this year's Toy Fair the best is the return of CREATIVITY! Check out what these people can do with a lot of Lego bricks and imagination.. (while others on display were also cool, i only took pics of Lego Star Wars as a particular point of my interests).

One thing i also noticed were the inclusion of dioramas, as participant's creativity goes way beyond their imagination and into their creation. Below were the mind-boggling diorama creations on display..

La piece de resistance, a Tatooine diorama (a video of the whole thing can be seen on http://www.facebook.com/donnynarendra?ref=profile#!/video/video.php?v=399440701410&ref=mf).

A rendition of A Nightmare Before Christmas that would make Tim Burton proud.

Proof that creativity knows no boundary is through the number of participants in the cosplay competition. Maybe i've seen more people and more creativity taking part in previous Toy Fairs, but it's still a very welcome entertainment for me. i mean, i'm sure these people are into having sex with costumes and such :)

I didn't go to the House of Horror, though.. sorry y'all.

Well that's it from this years Toy Fair. Overall it was totally fun, and that's all that matters for most punters such as myself. Looking forward to the Year End Toy Fair, until then i bid you so long.

Oh snap! in case everyone's wondering what i got from there, here they are:

I got this from My Bebeh :)

080310 was my birthday, and like any 34 year old that refuses to grow up.. naturally i wanted a toy. My dearest fiancee Yasmin knew exactly what i wanted and got this super cool Kidrobot 6" Ralph Wiggum (yay!!)

This is by far the closest, most resembling rendition of Chief Wiggum's awkwardly endearing, paste-eating loser son from Matt Groening’s The Simpsons. This is definitely better than the one they sold in blind boxes.

On top of that, Yasmin choo-choo-choose the box that's got the leprechaun for accessories hahahahaha. Yeah, i know i'm lucky :)

My friends from the office also got me a yellow original The Simpsons Homer sweater, which totally made my birthday a Simpsons Birthday. They all have great taste, and they know what i like :)

Below are Kidrobot 6" Ralph Wiggum pics that i got off the www..

The answer to the question above would be the Leprechaun!!

But forget about the review and the web pics for a while.. see my expression below after getting all this. Woo Hoo!!!
